Liege of the pit

Suddenly the sound of shattering earth rocked the skies as the ground tore open like a seam undone. The smell of sulfur chocked the air as the creature rose forth from the crevice. He stood like an unmoving statue an arm crashing before him as its body rose up. Two bent horns sprung from its head, its mouth as dark and menacing as the sea’s great abyss. He could see the creatures spine through the gaping maw that was its chest. Ribs gleaming like mirrors, heart pumping with the screams of death . The demons yellow eye’s gleamed like a shattered star. He stood his ground clearing his head of all thoughts save one. His lust for victory no matter what. The creature wheezed in a parody of laughter, and in one fell sweep it tore the man from his feet dangling him like a rag doll. His concentration shattered the man struggled helplessly in the monsters grasp the moans of death almost unbearable. He screamed in pain as the creatures grip tightened, it was only then that he realized the cost of victory was to great, even for him…

I drew this picture from the Magic card Liege of the pit. The original picture was done by Jeremy Jarvis. I liked this monstrosity mainly because I believe it has two meanings. The first obviously is to show how grotesque the monsters of the swamp can be. Second I believe it represents the great sacrifices a black mage is willing to give for victory. Not only is it a great picture, but it has got to be one of my favorite magic cards. I just could not pass up the opportunity to draw it. Thanks for looking, and enjoy the eye candy.
